Finding Lulu...

So about a week and a half ago Bella's hamster cage broke where the wheel is supposed to attach on the side. Despite my best efforts to keep it on, she finally made her escape sometime last Monday night. Bella was devastated and I was seriously dreading having to tell her that Lulu might never be coming back. I myself had lots of hope that she was inside the house somewhere. I knew that Daisy (our golden retriever) would never eat her since she is the most gentle dog ever, and Lulu is just way too fat to slip under a doorway to the outside. In the girls bathroom upstairs they have this jetted tub that has a side panel that removes so you have easy access to the pipes should you need to repair them, and there is also small spaces where something tiny, like a hamster, could escape to the inside of the walls. The panel keeps falling off so I just got sick of it and put in a closet till Greg could fix it. To me, that was the only place that I thought she might of gone. We searched all over the house all week long and there was no sign of her. Even though I didn't tell Bella that Lulu could be dead I think that since it had been so long she just sort of figured that it was inevitable.

Well....last night I was walking through the laundry room and I heard this scratching. I sat there for a minute and it stopped, and a few seconds later I heard it again. I couldn't tell where it was coming from at first so I moved things around, and picked up some things from off the floor and there was still no sign of Lulu. I called for Greg and we both agreed that she had to be inside the wall. So without hesitating we grabbed some tools and started sawing into the wall where we heard the sound. As soon as we pulled out the section of wall there was Lulu, looking so relieved that we had found her. Her nose was a little pale since I am sure that she did not have any water or food since her disappearance, her fur was sort of gray from climbing through the walls, and thank God, the girl had lost some weight! She definitely went through that open panel in the tub and got into the house. I am so glad that we found her for Bella and think we are also very lucky! Bella is so excited to have her pet back. Now all we have to do is get that stinkin' cage fixed so we don't go through that again!
